I suppose it is partly due to the precedent placed by the 'normal' game and whatnot. It' show you can compare playing the early game in a kirby game and getting the secret stuff in the late game - at first you can take any power combination/partner and everything is hunkydory, but the more you progress the more you need very specific combination and hunt down a specific key power.
