There are two things in the original TSRP2: you got bonus little activity levels hidden inside other levels that require pressing switches to make invisible switch block appear and let you access them, and a slew of 'top secret areas' you could access once, that would let you get some lives back and some powerup. Looks like the Top Secret Areas in the R version combines them together, putting them back to back, which I think is pretty cool and neat!
